Santorini is for Kids

Santorini is for Kids

Santorini was so good to us that we want to share every detail with you. I have created a series of 3 posts on the blog with our experience, our favorite things and more. Hope you find them useful.

Santorini was on my bucket list since my teen years. I fell in love with this Island when I first saw a picture of one of the amazing views. Originally, I thought it would be the perfect romantic getaway, so maybe for my honeymoon I though…

Jerry and I started talking about visiting Santorini over three years ago. When I started doing research, I discovered that many people thought this place was not the ideal for small children. After lots of consideration we decided we were not yet ready to visit Santorini with our daughter.

Last year we finally made it to Santorini! I marked off one thing from my bucket list and absolutely loved every minute that we spent on this enchanted Island. I went with my husband, 3 year old daughter and my Mom. Life is full of surprises! Never in my dreams did I see this coming, but I have to be honest it was perfect for me.

I’m not here to tell you to go to Santorini with your kids, that’s a decision only you can make. Think on how is your family and how your family likes to travel. What I’m hear to tell you is about our experience and that in my adventurous opinion Santorini is for kids.

We spent 3 perfect nights in Santorini in a beautiful villa in Fira, we enjoyed every second of it. I would love to go back with more time.

Where to Stay?

First thing to decide when going to Santorini is where you want to stay. I learned it is important you ask yourself if to stay near the beach or at a place where you can enjoy the Caldera view. After considering these two options we decided to go for the view. Why? One of the things that always impressed me the most about Santorini, was the pictures of the beautiful Eagan Ocean and the sunsets. And we thought, the Island is not big, so we could easily visit the beach.

We stayed in Fira, which is the capital of Santorini. Here you will enjoy amazing views of the Caldera, great restaurants, beautiful hotels and we found that for us Fira was more affordable.

Hotel Villa Renos was our home on the Island. I totally recommend this place. We stayed at the grand suite caldera view and it was fairy tale like. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the owner and staff made our stay incredible. The suite had all the amenities we were looking for, very spacious, private patio where we enjoyed the most beautiful sunsets and exterior jacuzzi. The hotel also had a small pool that was perfect for us and location was excellent.

And if all this were not enough, the breakfast or maybe I should call it brunch, 3 plus course of deliciousness . Every morning was different with dessert included and we were able to try real traditional Greek cuisine. If you want to be treated like a celebrity, without breaking your bank account, hands down  this is the place you need to stay.

Relax or busy schedule?

Another decision to make was do we want to pack our schedule with things to do or take it easy and relax. Before Santorini we visited Athens and after we were heading to Tuscany. So we decided that this part of the trip was going to be one to relax and enjoy the simple things of the island life.

In our next post we will share the things we did, all kids friendly and family oriented.

Are you planning a trip to Santorini? Tell me what is your plan.
