10 Things I Love About Kansas City
In celebration of my 10 year anniversary of moving to Kansas City, I want to share with you 10 things I love about this city. I know there’s so many more things but these are my personal favorites.
For the past 10 years I have learned to love Kansas City, and how can I not since it is the birth place of my daughter and the place I now call home. Kansas City is a great community, the people are friendly and always willing to help. It’s a great place to raise a family and a super fun place to live in.
So here are my top 10! I hope that if you are traveling to Kansas City you can grab one or two ideas on what to do and if you are a local maybe there’s something you haven’t done or try and I encourage you to do it.
Kansas City BBQ
Kansas City BBQ is the absolute best! I always say that I didn’t know what BBQ was until I moved here. You cannot go wrong when visiting any of the BBQ restaurants but my 3 favorites are Jack Stack, Arthur Bryant’s and Q39. It all comes down to the sauce. When compared to other styles, Kansas City style sauces are sweet and thick. The recipe usually includes a base made with tomato and molasses, and you may find brown sugar as well. The sauce is cooked into the meat or brushed on immediately after cooking.
Kansas City Chiefs
To be honest I was not a football fan before moving to Kansas City. But I married Jerry and he is a fan, and this city sure love their Chiefs, so I gave in. I still need to work on understanding the game but I have come long way. We watch the games at home, root for them all the time, enjoy the Red Fridays and I’ve been lucky enough to go watch them play in the Arrowhead stadium once. If you are in Kansas City during football season go enjoy a game and experience the tailgating, you won’t regret it.
Kansas City Royals
With baseball I’ve been a fan all my life and when I moved to Kansas City the Royals quickly became one of my favorite teams. I’ve been in the Kauffman Stadium home to the Royals a few times. Thanks to the Royals I was able to mark off one of the things on my bucket list, attend a World Series Game back in 2014. They did not win that time but they came back in 2015. When in Kansas City don’t forget to pay a visit to our Royals.
Boulevard Brewing
They have great beer, my two favorites are their Pale Ale and Tank 7. If you enjoy beer tasting like me and you are planning to visit Kansas City, then you must stop at this brewery. They have various tours, including a free one that is very fun. I have taken 3 of these tours and had always had a great time. After the tour you can stop at their beer hall and keep on trying all their beers.
Union Station
Built in 1914 this building has impressive architecture. It is still a working train station, but it is also an entertainment center for all. When visiting Union Station you will be amazed by its beauty but also with all the things that you can do there. It has restaurants, an interactive science center, a planetarium, a movie theater, year round exhibits and so much more. I really love this place and every time someone comes to visit, I make sure to make a stop here.
City Market
This Market has everything you need . You will find great local restaurants, a huge variety of spices, fruit and vegetables, an African market, where I found a lot of Puerto Rican products among other things. They also host a big farmers market on Saturday’s with a great produce selection. This place is ideal to spend a good time with friends and family, shopping and eating great food.
San Antonio Tacos
So I know this choice can be a surprising for some, but seriously these are the best street tacos that I have tried, other than the ones in Mexico City. Jerry and I are super fans and visit them often. You can choose from al pastor, asada, barbacoa, carnitas and others. Make sure to taste a super small amount of the orange sauce before you put it on your taco, it’s very spicy.
Urban Hikes KC
This is a great way of enjoying the history of downtown Kansas City while getting a work out. They offer guided hikes and/or walks around Kansas City, you can customize the hike to your private group or join a tour. Kids are welcome and you will have a lot of Instagram worthy pictures. Super fun activity to do as local or visitor.
Crossroads
I love the vibe of this area of the city! Love to walk and enjoy the amazing art murals. There’s so many local small breweries in this areas that you cannot try them all in one day and you will also find different delicious alternatives of local restaurants.
Kansas City Skyline View
My favorite view of the Kansas City skyline is from the Liberty Memorial. You can see all the mayor downtown buildings, the east side, Union Station and so much more. It’s also beautiful at night time with all the lights. While you are there is easy to get to many other attractions like the World War II Museum, the down town area, Crown Center, among others.
Are you ready to visit Kansas City yet? Are you a local?, tell me your top 10.
